What is BIS CRS Registration?
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology introduced the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) for electronic and IT products. This Scheme currently covers 76 products. The BIS CRS Registration is required for all individuals and businesses who store, sell, manufacture, import, or distribute electronic products. Electronic product manufacturers must obtain testing from BIS-recognised labs before applying for this Registration.
After that, BIS registers manufacturers who can declare that their products comply with Indian Standards under the BIS CRS Registration Scheme. When the entity is successfully registered, it is allowed to use the Standard Mark as informed by the BIS CRS Registration.
PROCESS FOR CRS REGISTRATION?
This is the stepwise procedure for CRS Registration:
1. The manufacturer has a BIS portal account. (For Indian manufacturers, an MSME is necessary; for overseas manufacturers, a business licence).
2. Login credentials are used to construct the testing request.
3. The BIS Certified lab receives the sample.
4. Product information are shared, which includes the Brand name, Model Numbers, CCL, and Marking plate.
5. Following testing, test results and AIR (Authorised Indian Representative) supporting documentation are posted to the portal, and a physical copy of the set is provided to the BIS department.
6. The department issues registration upon review.
7. Prior to sale, the product must have the BIS standard logo, R-Number, manufacturer information, and product information.
